King Larry rules SuperSport.com's rugby games

The World Cup is over and the judges' scorecards are in. It's a landslide victory King Larry, who will be celebrating about as hard as everyone in Auckland combined after taking home over 50 grand in SuperSport.com's rugby games run during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

There were 26 prizes in total up for grabs in the Fantasy, Prediction and Dream Team games sponsored by Shield, with Dunlop weighing in heavily in their sponsored pool in the Prediction game.

Of those 26, King Larry - or Laurent Riviere in the real world - claimed three, winning R30 000 for being the best predictor, another R25 000 for becoming Dunlop's champion, and a set of four Dunlop SP Sport 6060 225/40 R18 tyres for being the top Dunlop-pool player in the knockout stages of the game.

"Words can't describe my emotions and feelings, it's outta this world, awesome," said Laurent when told of his good fortune. And how did he go about making his selections? He obviously took it quite seriously: "I look at previous head-to-heads, previous results of that team, history of both teams, look at current form, and I also look at who is and isn't playing, those sort of things."

There you go then, all of you that just jumped in on a morning and made your predictions within five minutes. Do your research!!

Of course there were plenty of other winners, with Genevieve Grobbelaar Loff taking home R30 000 for winning the Fantasy game, while Akpeisama Daniel, Gerhard 'shuffling' and Devlin Conway's dreams came true in the Dream Team game, as each took home R16 000 for having the closest World Cup XVs to the game's overall side.

All the winners are listed below, and thanks once again to all of you for playing. A huge thanks as well to Shield and Dunlop Tyres for making the game as attractive as it was.

Also, don't forget that the predicting fun (and prize-winning opportunities!) continues in our other current games, so go to the Games page to see what's available.

How to Play

Ever wanted to know what it would be like to a Rugby World Cup coach?

Now's your chance - except unlike a real coach you can select players from any team to create the ultimate squad.

  • With a limited budget, buy a squad of 23 players from the 600 real players taking part in RWC
  • For each round of games, pick your starting XV
  • Sell and buy players between rounds, moulding your squad to the fixture list
  • Set up pools to challenge friends, family and colleagues
  • Benefit from a great points-scoring system that means all players are able to garner points, not just the glory boys!

Scoring System

The RWC Fantasy points-scoring system is designed so that all players are able to garner points, not just try scorers and goal kickers.

Players score points for:
  • Appearance in run-on teams and as substitutes
  • Match results
  • Scoring plays (tries, conversions, penalties and drop-kicks)
  • Team gameplay like forwards winning scrums and lineouts
  • Individual gameplay like linebreaks, turnovers and tackles
  • Individual penalties like yellow cards

For more detail, please see the full scoring system.

Shield have come on board as sponsors and are offering a total of R48 000 (tying in nicely with the 48hr protection that Shield products offer...)

  • Top player wins R30 000
  • Runner-up wins R13 000
